If you've listened to the Three Dads and a Console podcast over the years, you know that both Court and I are huge fans of MLB The Show, but more specifically, their Diamond Dynasty mode. For those not in the know, Diamond Dynasty is MLB The Show's card collecting mode.
In MLB The Show 23, Sony San Diego added sets and seasons to the mode which limited the type of cards players could access given what time in the year it was. Season 1 cards were only available to be used in season 1, for example. MLB The Show 24 slightly changed this with the addition of wild card slots which allowed use of any card, despite which season it was.
Fan of the game seemed to hate these changes in MLB The Show and thankfully, Sony San Diego has listened. In a recent Playstation blog, Ramone Russell Sony San Diego's Product Development Communications and Brand Strategist shared this:
"...that Sets and Seasons will not be returning in MLB The Show 25, allowing every card to be used freely throughout the year..."
This wasn't the only look ahead to MLB The Show 25. Ramone also shared this:
"...Beginning tomorrow, you can start earning Now & Later MLB The Show Packs in playable content all throughout Diamond Dynasty! Each Now & Later MLB The Show Pack earned in MLB The Show 24 will grant an MLB The Show Pack in MLB The Show 25."
It will be interesting to see how the MLB The Show team implements this change to make it feel fresh or if they just roll the mode back to MLB The Show 22, a game I spent over 200 hours in playing diamond dynasty.
While I think some gamers are disappointed to hear that MLB The Show isn't just a current-gen game (Xbox Series X/S and Playstation 5), there's still time for those kind of announcements to be made, but don't forget, this is a call from Major League Baseball and not Sony. Major League Baseball is the reason is now on both Nintendo and Microsoft consoles. Interested in our thoughts on MLB: The Show 24? Court reviewed the online modes while I reviewed the offline mods.
