Let Nightreign down!
Playstation Blog has released a juicy bit of news on Elden Ring Nightreign. Let's start with the fun news: Elden Ring Nightreign is coming on May 30, 2025! That's right, we're getting From Software's next Elden Ring series in about three months!
Unlike Elden Ring, Elden Ring Nightreign is a co-op adventure set in the world of Elden Ring. There is no prior knowledge of Elden Ring needed to play this as it is as standalone adventure. Playstation Blog specifically mentions that there is a PvE combat element to the game, but doesn't mention anything about PvP.
One thing to note is that Elden Ring Nightreign is a three person co-op game, continuing the trend of not having four players as the standard party size. There are some cool mechanics implemented in Elden Ring Nightreign.
To revive your teammates, you need to attack them. This is definitely different than anything I've experienced when playing co-op games.
You can also lock-on to a downed player, so you can rescue them from a safe distance with a long-range attack. A rescue is complete when the dying player’s meter is reduced. If a player goes down repeatedly, the meter will get longer, making it harder to complete the rescue. During the day, if players aren’t rescued in time, they die and respawn afterward. At night, players do not die. Instead, they remain incapacitated/”near death” until they are rescued.
That's a pretty neat system. With FromSoftware telling us that Elden Ring Nightreign will be a fast paced co-op game, it wouldn't make mechanical sense to have a "pick up" option like in most multiplayer games. Being able to attack your teammate, even from long range, to revive them is cool. I also really enjoy the idea of the day/night mechanic.
While FromSoftware's games have never been my cup of tea, I am a sucker for a good co-op game with my buds. This could be something that we look into, especially since some in my group really enjoyed Elden Ring.
Elden Ring Nightreign releases on PS5, PS4, PC and Xbox Series X/S machines on May 30, 2025.
