NHL 24's Team of the Year: Who Made the Cut?

Team of the Year

Every season of Hockey Ultimate team in the NHL franchise by EA Sports announces their Team of the Year. The team of the year is based on a player's performance from Jan 1st of the previous year to Jan 1st of the current year.

They announced the candidates, and our own Wabba Plays gave his predictions. I will admit my bias right off the hop as I'm a Boston Bruins fan, so I was a bit disappointed by the winners this year. It seems the community isn't as happy about them either.

Below are the winners of Team of the Year.

To say these choices are met with some controversy is an understatement, as the EA Sports social feeds are flooded with some confused hockey fans.

The two players fans seemed puzzled about are Matthew Tkachuck and Miro Heiskanen. Both players are fantastic hockey players, but some obvious choices were not picked. David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins has the most goals scored since Jan 1st of last year in the whole league. Nikita Kucherov has better stats as well than Matthew Tkachuk and wasn't chosen. It seems that Tkachuck was chosen solely for his playoff performance last year.

Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon are no-brainers, along with Cale Makar and Linus Ullmark. Miro Heiskanen, over Quinn Hughes, who has had a stronger performance in the calendar year, is the other head-scratcher.

The team over at NHL 24 has done a great job with communication and making changes to the game to improve it but continues to stumble with moves like they did with Team of the Year. Hockey Ultimate Team is about the content and making the player base play towards something. They have had a couple of good sets to collect this year, like the Bobby Orr but based on the feedback from the community, they missed the mark on these selections.
