Sony announced that the PS5 has sold 50 million consoles worldwide. Hot off the heels of the launch of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, the PS5 had its best November in the history of the console.
Strong sales from Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 made the PS5 a must-have for those who haven't picked up the console. I think that the recent refresh of the console helped with those sales, as current owners and new owners wanted the new console.
Sony Interactive Entertainment boss was quoted as saying that these sales "are a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented developers from PlayStation Studios and our partners."
The PS5 sales are not far off from the PS4, which hit 50 million in 160 weeks, and the PS5 needs 161 weeks. I wonder if the pandemic and shortages never happened if they had reached the 50 million mark sooner.
