Sea of Thieves is now confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30th. Pentiment has also been confirmed to be coming on February 22nd. Both games were rumoured to be coming to PlayStation, but we finally have confirmation.
During the Xbox Business update, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said the games were coming to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. We now know those games to be Pentiment, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush. Grounded has only been announced for Nintendo Switch. Pentiment has been announced for both Nintendo and PlayStation, while Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves are only for PlayStation. Many insiders thought they would announce them all during the Nintendo: Partner Direct today, but they only told Grounded.
The trailer for Hi-Fi Rush was released directly after the direct but was quickly taken down and put back up hours later.
As the day went on, Xbox began rolling out announcements one at a time to let everyone know about the games coming on PlayStation 5.
The launch of Sea of Thieves on PlayStation 5 will coincide with Season 12 of Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves will be in the PlayStation store to order on February 22nd, along with Pentiment.
Sea of Thieves will be the first Rare title in their 40 year history to launch on a PlayStation console.
In a post on the Sea of Thieves website, the development team states, "We can genuinely say there’s never been a better time to set sail with us. The team has dedicated years to making Sea of Thieves the best with regular free content updates, offering everything from new Voyages, new tools and new islands to sprawling story-focused Tall Tales, including crossovers with other legendary pirate properties. We’ve even introduced new ways to play, like Safer Seas mode for pirates still finding their sea legs, and we have plans to keep adding features and improving the experience for a long time.
Players who take the plunge can expect to find a new family in the Sea of Thieves community, a vast and welcoming place that’s endlessly rewarding to explore. We’d encourage anyone unfamiliar with the game to start seeing the sights by following us on social channels, signing up for the free newsletter and checking out the Affiliate Alliance for local or like-minded groups to join."
Sea of Thieves is available to pre-order on February 22nd and launches on April 30th on PlayStation 5.
